Director for theatre
and visual,
multisensory storytelling

Deaf director — her work brings together sign language, movement, and visual perception.

Profile

Stephanie Mündel-Möhr is a Deaf director and theatre educator, originally from Canada and now based in Germany. Her artistic work brings together sign language, movement and visual forms. A central focus of her practice is multisensory access to music and theatre, as well as the connection between Deaf and hearing perspectives.

She has been performing since a young age, with an early emphasis on pantomime and visual expression. Over the years, she developed her own sign theatre work in Calgary and later performed for several years with the inclusive theatre company Handstand in Freiburg. Her long-standing background in dance and movement continues to shape how she works with storytelling on stage.

She studied Theatre Education (B.A.) at the University of Victoria (Canada) and later completed professional acting training for Deaf actors in Olten, Switzerland.

Her recent director work includes the bilingual city tour of Deaf history in Bern “Hände Erzählen” (Hands Tell Stories, 2026, StattLand Bern), the inclusive theatre project “Gebärden der Geschichte” (History of Sign Language, 2025, InterAkt Initiatives Theater, Stuttgart) and “In 80 Tagen um die Welt” (Around the World in 80 Days, 2024, Comedia Theater Köln), her first major inclusive theatre production.
